WELLINGTON, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand reported no new case of COVID-19 on Friday, with the number of active cases in the country being 23, all in managed isolation and quarantine facilities, according to the Ministry of Health.

It has been 98 days since the last case of COVID-19 was acquired locally from an unknown source, according to the ministry.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in New Zealand remains at 1,219, a ministry statement said.

As part of the collective preparedness around COVID-19, the ministry is recommending households to add masks to their earthquake emergency kits, it said.

"It isn't necessary for the public to wear masks at Alert Level 1, because there's no evidence of community transmission in New Zealand," said Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield.

Masks will be most useful when COVID-19 is present in the community and people are in situations where they are in close proximity to each other, Bloomfield said. Enditem
