SHIJIAZHUANG, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Major structural construction of an underground water recycling plant started on Friday in the Xiongan New Area in north China's Hebei Province, an important facility designed to echo the green development of the new area.

Covering a land area of five hectares, the plant will have 29 pool units for wastewater treatment, covered with 25-cm-thick concrete, said Ge Qingli, project manager with the construction company, Beijing Municipal Construction Co., Ltd.

The treatment will be performed in an enclosed environment, and an ecological park will be built on the ground surface above the plant, said Ge.

At least two-thirds of the park will be covered by greenery, he said.

Wang Naiyi, director of the company's operation in Xiongan, said the plant will serve a population of 152,000 in an area of nearly five square km, which covers the high-speed railway station of Xiongan.

On April 1, 2017, China announced plans to establish the Xiongan New Area, located about 100 km southwest of Beijing.

Often billed as China's "city of the future," Xiongan will develop into a modern city that is green, intelligent, and livable, with relatively strong competitiveness and harmonious human-environment interaction by 2035, as planned. Enditem
