CHICAGO, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Gold futures on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange fell on Friday on a stronger U.S. dollar.

The most active gold contract for December delivery fell 41.4 U.S. dollars, or 2 percent, to close at 2,028 dollars per ounce.

Positive economic figure also dampens gold. The nonfarm payrolls report released by the U.S. Department of Labor on Friday showed 1.76 million new people employed in July, better than expected. The unemployment rate dropped to 10.2 percent in July from adjusted 12 percent in June.

Silver for September delivery fell 86 cents, or 3.03 percent, to close at 27.54 dollars per ounce. Platinum for October delivery dropped 43.5 dollars, or 4.29 percent, to close at 970.4 dollars per ounce. Enditem
