Palestine reports 514 new COVID-19 cases, 17,948 in total

RAMALLAH, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian health ministry announced on Friday 514 new COVID-19 cases and three new deaths, bringing the tally of infections in the Palestinian territories to 17,948 and the death toll to 97.

"Since March 5, the ministry has recorded 17,948 infections, including 97 deaths and 9,543 recoveries, and 8,308 cases are still receiving medical care at home or in hospitals," Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila told a news briefing in Ramallah.

"A total of 11 cases in critical conditions are in the intensive care units in different hospitals in the West Bank," said the minister who called on the Palestinian citizens to abide by the health ministry's safety instructions.

The Palestinian government imposed a full weekly lockdown in all West Bank districts as part of the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the deadly virus. The lockdown starts on Thursday evening and will end on Sunday morning. Enditem
