RAMALLAH, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian health ministry on Saturday reported 426 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total infections in the Palestinian territories since March 5 to 18,374.

In its daily briefing, the ministry also announced six more fatalities, taking the death toll from the virus to 103, while the cases of recovery have grown to 10,039, representing a 55-percent recovery rate.

Among the latest cases were 220 registered in the district of East Jerusalem and 206 in the West Bank, according to the ministry.

There are 8,232 active cases, including 10 in intensive care units, it noted.

Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila told reporters that she expects a new rise in the number of infections as more and more Palestinians are visiting Israel.

She warned that the available medical equipment in Palestine can cover no more than three months.

Earlier in the day, the building of the Palestine Liberation Organization in the West Bank city of Ramallah was shut down for 14 days after one of its employees was diagnosed with COVID-19, sources said. Enditem
