ADEN, Yemen, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Yemeni government officials confirmed on Sunday that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has exerted "hard humanitarian efforts" to reunite a Yemeni Jewish family after 15 years of separation.

A local official of the Saudi-backed Yemeni government told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that "the Jewish minority living in northern areas controlled by the Houthi rebels are suffering daily abuses and the UAE intervened lately."

He said that "Houthis repeatedly gave the remaining Jewish families an ultimatum of either staying in prison or leaving the country."

Another Yemeni security official confirmed to Xinhua that "the UAE through its humanitarian efforts facilitated the departure of a Jewish family out of war-ravaged Arab country."

The Yemeni family were recently reunited in the UAE with their relatives who came from Britain after enduring 15 years of separation, the source said.

During the past years, several members of Yemen's tiny Jewish community were airlifted out from the war-ravaged Arab country and headed to live in Israel.

In 2017, Yemen's Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani said that about 50 Jews are estimated to be left in Yemen but information about their state was "unknown." Enditem
