Palestine registers 277 new cases of COVID-19

RAMALLAH, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Palestine on Sunday said that 277 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in the past 24 hours and one Palestinian died of the disease.

Palestinian Health Ministry said in a press statement that a 77-year-old man has died as a result of his infection with the novel coronavirus, bringing the total fatalities due to the virus to 104.

The ministry said that the total number of cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic in Palestine has climbed up to 18,651, of whom 10,278 have fully recovered.

The currently active cases include 10 patients admitted to intensive care units, three of whom are connected to ventilators.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian government declared earlier on Sunday that it is working on setting up field hospitals to deal with COVID-19, amidst warnings of a possible new wave of the disease ahead of fall. Enditem
