TIRANA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Germany has allocated 10.5 million euros (around 12.4 million U.S. dollars) to help Albania mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Albanian Ministry of Finance and Economy said in a press release Monday.

The fund was announced by German Ambassador to Albania Peter Zingraf at a meeting with Albanian Minister of Finance and Economy Anila Denaj on Monday, according to the release.

Zingraf said the fund was allocated for the economic and technical cooperation between the two countries for the 2020-2021 period and will help mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fund, according to Zingraf, will particularly focus on supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Albania.

On Monday, Albanian health authorities reported 125 new COVID-19 cases, raising the number of confirmed cases in the country to 6,536, with 3,379 recoveries and 200 fatalities. (1 euro = 1.18 U.S. dollars) Enditem
