LONDON, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Brazil international Willian Borges da Silva has signed a three-year contract with Arsenal, confirmed the English Premier League club on Friday.

The former Chelsea forward moved from Stamford Bridge to Emirates on a free transfer. During the seven years he spent at Chelsea, the 32-year-old won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and the Europa League. He made 339 appearances with 63 goals for the Blues.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believed his first signing of the summer could really make a difference for the squad.

"He is a player that gives us a lot of versatility, he can play in three or four different positions," said Arteta, who led the Gunners to win the FA Cup last season by beating Chelsea in the final. "He has the experience of everything in the football world but to still have the ambition to come here and contribute to bring the club where it belongs."

Willian said Arteta gave him the confidence to come to Arsenal. "He said a lot of good things to me and that's why I have come to Arsenal."

"I think that with Arteta, Arsenal have a great opportunity to fight again for titles in the Premier League and in Europe so I'm very happy because of that," Willian told the club's website.

The Spaniard Arteta replaced Unai Emery to coach Arsenal at the end of 2019. Arsenal finished eighth in the Premier League last season. Enditem
