BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- A group of celebrities have come together to produce a new show "Older Sisters riding winds and breaking waves" where the contestants, all born before 1990, do battle to be part of a new girl-band.
In the show, the "sisters" demonstrate their fearlessness and lack of concern with labels such as age, style and societal expectations, daring to be different, trying to break out of their comfort-zone and try different performance styles. During the show, contestants explain their feelings about being a woman over 30 and how this affects their singing and dancing, performance and life.
In the theme song for the new show, called "Priceless older sisters", the performers emphasize how contemporary Chinese women can overcome difficulties by appreciating themselves as "priceless". The catchy song has become well-known and popular in China. The girls explain how their confidence and skills mean they do not worry about their increasing age, singing "look at me fearlessly overcoming difficulties" and "my ideas and talents are priceless".
One of the most popular contestants, Hanyun Zhang, aged 31 from southwest China's Sichuan Province, impressed audiences with her perseverance and change in fortunes. Where in the 3rd show she lacked confidence in her dancing ability, Zhang later tried her skills at African dancing, showing audience her improvement and gaining more votes than the other more "competent" contestants.
Fans from China and abroad commented passionately on platforms such as Youtube and Weibo, "The show is designed so creatively, it really shows the beauty of women of different ages, especially showing how beautiful woman can be when they are over 30!" said one online fan.
