PRAGUE, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Top seed Simona Halep breezed past Magdalena Frech of Poland 6-2, 6-0 in just under an hour to reach the semifinals of Prague Open here on Friday.
The two-time Grand Slam champions won a total of 60 points in 59 minutes against the Pole's 30, while the latter, ranked world number 174, just held one serve.
However, it was already a good trip for Frech who was given a main draw ticket as one of three lucky losers in the qualifying before beating Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Arantxa Rus for a berth in her first WTA quarterfinal.
Halep will next face either Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu or Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain. Begu was leading 6-2, 0-1 when the match was suspended.
No. 3 seed Elise Mertens was made to work as she overcame Canadian wildcard Eugenie Bouchard 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in another quarterfinal. She will take on Czech Kristyna Pliskova whose quarterfinal opponent Ana Bogdan of Romania retired due to a left foot injury when leading 5-2. Enditem
