KIEV, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree appointing former Prime Minister Vitold Fokin to the Minsk Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) for peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbas, the president's press service said Tuesday.

Head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, noted that Fokin will help to establish interaction both with the residents of Donbas who live in the territory not controlled by Kiev and with those living in the rest of the country.

The armed conflict in Donbas has been ongoing since April 2014, leaving some 13,000 people dead and 30,000 others injured.

On July 22, representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) agreed on a ceasefire in Donbas beginning July 27. Enditem
