CAIRO, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Egypt reported 163 new COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths on Tuesday, raising the total infections in the country to 96,753 and the death toll to 5,184, said the Egyptian Health Ministry.

A total of 911 coronavirus patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, taking the total recoveries to 61,562, said health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed.

Egypt announced its first confirmed COVID-19 case on Feb. 14 and the first death from the highly infectious disease on March 8.

From the first week of July, daily coronavirus infections and fatalities in Egypt started to gradually decline.

The country resumed international flights in early July after it lifted a partial nighttime curfew imposed since late March. Enditem
