MALE, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Maldives' Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has been temporarily assigned the ministerial portfolio for Health, local media reported here Wednesday.

Aslam was assigned the Health portfolio by President Ibrahim Solih following the decision of previous Health Minister Abdulla Ameen to step down amid allegations of financial irregularities in his ministry.

An audit into the Ministry of Health's actions during the pandemic found financial irregularities in the procurement of medical goods, including advance payment for ventilators from a Dubai-based company that has yet to deliver its goods four months later.

In addition to the audit, a separate investigation into the Ministry of Health's financial irregularities was conducted by the Anti Corruption Commission, the report of which will be sent for review to the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions.

Meanwhile, the President's Office has promised to take action on the issue. Enditem
