Indian federal minister tests positive for COVID-19

NEW DELHI, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- India's federal minister for water resources Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Thursday tested positive for COVID-19.

"After noticing some symptoms, I got tested for coronavirus. My result has come out to be positive. I am getting admitted to a hospital on doctors' advice. I appeal to all those who have come in contact me in the last few days to isolate themselves and get tested. All of you please stay healthy and take care," Shekhawat wrote on Twitter.

The 52-year-old politician is the sixth federal minister to test positive for the highly contagious disease.

Officials said he would be admitted in Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon near Delhi for COVID-19 treatment.

On Tuesday, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah was admitted in India's premier health institute All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi for post COVID-19 care. Enditem
