57 films to be released in China as cinemas reopen

BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- A total of 57 films have been scheduled for their China debut later this year, according to the country's two major film distributors.

The films, including 43 domestic ones and 14 from overseas, are expected to boost the recovery of the Chinese film market as COVID-19 wanes in the country, China Film Co., Ltd. and Huaxia Film Distribution Co., Ltd. announced on the sidelines of the Beijing International Film Festival, which kicked off on Saturday.

The festival, originally scheduled for April but postponed due to the epidemic, runs from Aug. 22 to 29. More than 300 Chinese and overseas films will be screened during the festival, according to Zhang Xiaoguang, deputy director of the China Film Art Research Center.

China allowed cinemas in low-risk areas to resume operation starting from July 20, following an improvement in the country's epidemic situation. Enditem
