BEIRUT, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Ibrahim Tarshishi, head of the farmers' association in Lebanon's Bekaa, urged on Sunday Lebanese authorities to work with Jordan on opening Jaber border crossing to allow Lebanese farmers to export their products to Arab countries, Elnashra news website reported.

"The closure of the crossing caused an increase in stocks of agricultural products in the local market, while reducing their prices and ruining farmers' agricultural products," Tarshishi said.

The Jordanian government decided on Aug. 12 to close the Jaber border crossing with Syria until Sept. 3 upon a recommendation from health authorities to restrict the spread of COVID-19.

"We urge all Lebanese authorities to work with Jordanian officials to re-open this border which used to witness exports of 1,000 tons of agro-products on a daily basis," Tarshishi said. Enditem
