ADEN, Yemen, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- A pro-government Yemeni militia on Monday announced killing of four fighters of the Houthi rebel group in the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah.

The four Houthi fighters were killed "in a botched attack against Tuhyata area of Hodeidah," said a brief press statement released by the Giants Brigades militia.

The attack also resulted in injuring eight Houthi fighters, the statement added.

The statement accused the Houthis of continuing breaching the cease-fire by attempting this fresh attack in Tuhyata.

No information, however, was given about casualties among the government soldiers during the exchange of fire with the Houthis.

Hodeidah has seen a shaky cease-fire between the Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels since the two sides reached a UN-sponsored truce in Stockholm in December 2018.

Part of Hodeidah Province, including the namesake port city on the Red Sea, is under the control of the Houthi rebels, while the government forces have advanced to the southern and eastern districts.

Yemen has been mired in civil war since late 2014, when the Iran-backed Houthi group seized control of much of the country's north and forced the Saudi-backed government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi out of the capital Sanaa. Enditem
