MOSCOW, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- A Russian fighter jet has intercepted a Norwegian military plane over the Barents Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
"Russian airspace control systems detected an air target approaching the Russian border over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea," the ministry's Zvezda broadcasting service said in a statement.
A Russian MiG-31 aircraft and its crew identified the aerial object as a Norwegian Air Force P-3C Orion patrol plane, it said.
After the Norwegian plane flew away from the Russian border, the Russian jet safely returned to its airfield.
The Russian jet strictly complied with international rules for the use of airspace, it added. Enditem
