RAMALLAH/GAZA, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Palestine recorded in the last 24 hours four deaths and 843 new COVID-19 cases, a senior Palestinian official said on Wednesday.

Mai al-Kaila, Palestinian Minister of Health, said in an emailed press statement that the health ministry recorded four deaths in Hebron, Bethlehem, and Nablus districts in the West Bank.

"In the last 24 hours, the health ministry recorded 843 new infections in the Palestinian territories. At the same time, it recorded 266 recovered cases," said al-Kaila, adding that 28 cases are in critical condition, including five on ventilators.

Al-Kaila added that since the outbreak of the deadly virus in the Palestinian territories in March, the health ministry recorded 31,333 cases, including 184 deaths and 21,058 recovered.

Meanwhile, Osama al-Najjar, director of the medical service in the health ministry in the West Bank, told reporters that there is a serious increase in the number of daily cases in the Palestinian territories.

"We expect more increase in cases in the coming few days that may reach 1,000 cases every day if people don't abide by the precautionary measures of social distancing and wearing face masks," al-Najjar said.

The Hamas movement, which rules the Gaza Strip, keeps a strict lockdown which was imposed on the coastal enclave districts on Aug. 24 amid increase in infections. Enditem
