GUANGZHOU, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Coast guard in south China's Guangdong Province seized 4,619 tonnes of smuggled frozen goods worth over 2 billion yuan (about 293 million U.S. dollars), authorities said Thursday.

A total of 131 suspects were nabbed during joint operations by Guangdong coast guard bureau and the public security bureau in the city of Zhongshan on Aug. 18, according to the provincial coast guard bureau.

Preliminary investigation showed that the frozen goods were transported by small boats and high-power motorboats from Hong Kong's western waters to ports without customs facilities, before being delivered to refrigeration houses in Dongguan, Jiangmen, Foshan and other cities or distributed directly to other parts of China for sale.

Further investigation is underway. Enditem
