TEHRAN, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Iran's chief nuclear official Ali Akbar Salehi said on Tuesday that a new and more modern centrifuge hall has been under construction in the mountainous areas near Natanz after the July 2 explosion.

"It has been decided to establish a more modern, vaster and more comprehensive hall in all aspects in the heart of the mountains near Natanz, and this has already started," Salehi said, as quoted by semi-official Fars news agency.

Talking in the sidelines of a briefing session at the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, the Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) explained the July 2 explosion occurred in a special hall for advanced centrifuges.

On July 2, the AEOI announced an "incident" had occurred at an industrial shed under construction in Natanz, without causing casualties or disrupting ongoing activity in the facilities.

Later in August, the AEOI reported that Iran's security services had concluded the explosion in Natanz was a "sabotage act." Enditem
