GAZA, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- A senior Egyptian security intelligence delegation arrived in the besieged Gaza Strip on Thursday to hold talks with leaders of the Islamic Hamas movement, Hamas security sources said.

The sources told Xinhua that the delegation crossed through the Israeli-controlled Erez crossing point between northern Gaza Strip and Israel.

The delegation arrived in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Wednesday and held talks with the Palestinian Authority's officials over the political and health situation in the Palestinian territories.

Hamas sources added that the Egyptian delegation will discuss with Hamas leaders the implementation of the recent calm understanding that Egypt brokered between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip.

The calm understanding which was reached last month ended more than two weeks of growing tension between the two sides and prevented a large-scale military confrontation between them.

The delegation will discuss with Hamas the measures of relaxing the Israeli blockade, which has been imposed on the Gaza Strip for more than 13 years, the sources added.

The delegation will also support Gaza's efforts of combating the coronavirus, which has spread in the densely populated areas of the coastal enclave, bringing the death toll to 10 and the tally of infections to 1,551 since March. Enditem
