BUCHAREST, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Romania reported 1,391 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, raising the tally of infections to 101,075, the most among Central and Eastern European countries.

The official tally showed that another 35 COVID-19 patients, 25 men and 10 women, died in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in the country to 4,100.

A total of 7,125 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the specialized health units as of Friday and 478 patients are in intensive care. Meanwhile, 10,772 people testing positive for novel coronavirus are in isolation at home, while 5,754 people in institutional isolation, according to the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force.

A total of 41,010 people were declared cured and 12,568 asymptomatic patients were discharged 10 days after testing positive, according to statistics.

In the last 24 hours, 26,149 tests were performed, bringing the country's total tests made so far since the outbreak of the pandemic to 2,041,921, said GCS.

Romania's daily number of new confirmed cases has basically remained above 1,000 since July 22, of which the biggest the single-day spike of 1,504 was registered on Aug. 27.

The average daily increase in August was 1,182.38, but the number climbed to 1,230.45 in the first 11 days of the current month.

Local experts believe that with the opening of primary and secondary schools on Sept. 14 and local elections at the end of the month, the country's epidemic prospects are not optimistic.

However, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban declared on Friday that there is no scenario for the country to return to the state of emergency and lockdown, stating that the situation is under control.

"We have limited the spread of the virus, the treatment capacity is not overwhelmed, all the structures of the health system have the possibility and are handling the situation we are in," he replied when answering a relevant question from a reporter during his visit to the city of Orsova, southwestern Romania, stressing that "No such hypotheses are being considered."
