BANGKOK, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's northeastern province of Nakhon Phanom on Sunday unveiled images of 270 kg of dried marijuana seized by the authorities.

Police said in a press briefing that the dried marijuana leaves were found by border patrol officers in eight black plastic bags near the Mekong riverbank.

The bags contained 270 bars of dried marijuana, each weighed about 1 kg.

Police said the bags were smuggled across the Mekong river in long-tail boats to the Thai side, waiting for delivery.

No one was found at the scene when the authorities arrived.

Nearly 2 tons of marijuana have been seized in Nakhon Phanom in August, according to the police.

Recreational use and unlicensed possession of marijuana in Thailand are categorized as illegal and may face imprisonment and other penalties. Enditem
