JERUSALEM, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Israeli aircraft struck the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, as warning sirens of rocket fired from the Palestinian territory sounded in southern Israel, local media reported.

Witnesses said that the Israeli air strike hit a training base of the Islamic Hamas movement, ruler of the Gaza Strip.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The Israeli military, which did not immediately confirm the attack, said rocket-warning sirens went off in Israeli communities bordering Gaza.

Hours earlier, a rocket fired by Palestinian militants in Gaza struck the coastal Israeli city of Ashdod, injuring two people, while in Washington Israel signed agreements to normalize diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. Enditem
