NUR-SULTAN, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The first wind turbine has been successfully installed on a wind farm in northwest Kazkhstan's Kostanay Region, according to the manager of the farm's operating company.
The 50-megawatt wind farm, built and run by Universal Energy, began construction in September 2019, and is scheduled to generate electricity by the end of December.
Tao Zhicheng, manager of the Kazakh branch of Chinese green power developer Universal Energy, told Xinhua on Friday that despite the COVID-19 impact, Chinese-made wind turbine blades and generators have been successfully shipped to Kostanay from China's northern city of Tianjin via the Khorgos port after a 7,000-km-long journey.
"The project is pressing forward despite the epidemic. Both Kazakh and Chinese colleagues have worked hard to overcome difficulties like the shortage of staff and obstruction of logistics. We have expanded the use of local resources and optimized remote management," said Tao, adding that the wind farm's turbine foundations have been erected and preparations for the installment of other wind turbines have been fully fledged.
Universal Energy is the contractor of six wind and solar power projects in Kazakhstan, all of which are part of the 55 China-Kazakhstan production capacity cooperation programs. Enditem
