DALIAN, China, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Guangzhou R&F ousted defending champions Shanghai Shenhua 5-3 on penalties in the first round of the 2020 China Football Association Cup (CFA Cup), while Guangzhou Evergrande beat Henan Jianye 2-0 on Friday night.
In the game against Shenzhen FC, Jiangsu Suning broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. Shenzhen keeper Guo Wei could only parry Gao Tianyi's shot and Ivan Santini turned in the rebound.
Li Ang netted a right-sided free-kick on 74 minutes to put the game beyond doubt, with a sweet finish for Suning.
"I even couldn't believe that a defender has terrific skills like Li. It's important to have such an advantage in the game," Suning coach Cosmin Olaroiu praised.
Shenhua took the upper hand after Yang Xu converted a penalty on 47 minutes from Lu Lin's trip on Peng Xinli but R&F leveled in the 79th minute as Zhang Gong flicked in a cross from Chen Zhizhao.
The match ended 1-1 at full-time, and both sides had opportunities to win in a penalty shoot-out but Qian Jiegei hit the bar while R&F scored all five to seal the win.
Facing Jianye, 19-year-old Tan Kaiyuan tucked into the net for Evergrande's lead in the 32nd minute on a one-two with Luo Guofu.
Evergrande did extend its lead on 65 minutes when naturalized Luo volleyed from the distance to settle matters.
In addition, Chen Kerui, Brazilian Guedes, Guo Tianyu and Liu Yang's goals helped Shandong Luneng crush Dalian Pro 4-0.
The other four games of the Suzhou Division will be played on Saturday and the second round is scheduled on November 26. Enditem
