HONG KONG, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific countries.

NEW DELHI -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India Saturday morning rose to 5,308,014, India's federal health ministry said.

During the past 24 hours, 93,337 new cases and 1,247 deaths were reported from across the country.

"The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across India is 5,308,014 and death toll is 85,619," reads the information released by the ministry.

MANILA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 283,460 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,962 new daily cases on Saturday.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries also rose to 209,885 after it reported 1,128 more patients have survived the disease.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has decided to retain the one-meter physical distancing in public transportation to reduce virus transmission amid surging cases in the country, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 20 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the national total to 10,167, the health ministry said on Saturday.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that three of the new cases are imported and 17 are local transmissions.

Another 51 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total cured and discharged to 9,315, or 91.6 percent of all cases.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported two new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, said the Ministry of Health in a statement.

Of the two new cases, one was a recent returnee in a managed isolation facility, and the second was a community case with its source still being investigated, said the ministry.

Its total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the World Health Organization now reached 1,460, said the ministry.

YANGON -- Myanmar reported five more COVID-19 deaths with 154 new cases on Saturday morning, according to a release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

As of Saturday morning, the death toll reached 75 while the number of infections was recorded at 4,621, the release said.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 1,567 new COVID-19 cases and 32 new deaths on Saturday, making the tally at 347,372 and death toll at 4,913, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 13,170 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 4,168 within one day to 240,687, with the death toll adding by 112 to 9,448, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the ministry, 3,576 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 174,350.
