Myanmar's COVID-19 death toll rises to 98, 6,151 cases in total

YANGON, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of COVID-19 increased to 98 with four newly-reported deaths on Monday night, according to a release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

A total of 346 confirmed cases were also reported in the country on Monday night, the release said, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 6,151.

Due to the recent increasing number of locally transmitted cases, the Myanmar government on Sunday imposed the stay-at-home order in all townships of the Yangon region, excluding Cocokyun township.

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, in her capacity as Chair of Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19, said the government will fulfill the needs of the public as part of the relief measures, including the provision of medical equipment and volunteers at the quarantine centers as well as enough hospitals, quarantine centers to accommodate for the infected patients.

According to the ministry's figures, 1,445 patients have been discharged from the hospitals so far.
