SANTIAGO, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chile's Ministry of Health on Monday reported 1,194 new cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in the past 24 hours, bringing the total caseload since the onset of the outbreak in the country to 447,468.

It was the lowest daily number of new cases since early May.

However, health authorities are concerned about a potential increase in cases due to the national holiday celebrations this past weekend.

"We have to wait for the development (of the outbreak) over the next few days" following the celebrations, Deputy Health Minister Paula Daza said.

Lockdown restrictions were relaxed on Sept. 18, 19 and 20 so Chileans could celebrate Independence Day and more with small groups of friends and family.

In the past 24 hours, 12 more patients died of COVID-19, raising the death toll to 12,298. Enditem
