5.1-magnitude quake hits South Sandwich Islands region -- USGS

WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- A 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted South Sandwich Islands region around 0354 GMT on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter, with a depth of 35.0 km, was initially determined to be at 60.3006 degrees south latitude and 26.2767 degrees west longitude.

South Sandwich Islands region is located in the southern Atlantic Ocean, consisting of South Georgia and a chain of smaller islands.

No damage has been reported so far following the earthquake. Enditem
