LANZHOU, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- A wild albino camel was captured by an infrared camera at a nature reserve in Jiuquan City, northwest China's Gansu Province.
The video footage, captured on Sept. 11, recorded 11 wild camels drinking water at an outdoor water pool, said a source of the Gansu Annanba Wild Camel National Nature Reserve.
One of them, with all-white skin, is believed to be the first white-skinned camel spotted in the reserve since its establishment in 2006.
Zhou Yongxiang, a staff with the nature reserve, said based on the footage and expert opinions, the white-skinned camel is the same species as the Bactrian camel at the reserve, which normally has brown skin and fur.
The Bactrian camel is listed as critically endangered on the Red List of Threatened Species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Located between the Kumtag Desert and the Altun Mountains, the reserve is a habitat for about one-third of the total population of wild camels in China. Enditem
