YANGON, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Ministry of Transport and Communications on Friday extended the suspension of international air services operation until the end of October.
To prevent the importation of COVID-19 cases through air travel, the Myanmar government suspended operation of international flights since March 30 after COVID-19 was first detected in the country on March 23.
Due to the suspension of international commercial flights during the pandemic, the government has been repatriating its nationals stranded in foreign countries by relief flights or special flights.
Some 150 Myanmar nationals from Singapore and 41 nationals from Thailand arrived at the Yangon International Airport on Friday, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
A total of 16,651 Myanmar citizens have been brought back home by relief flights or special flights so far, the ministry's figures said.
Under the management of the respective ministries and the Yangon Region Government, the returnees will be placed under a 14-day facility quarantine and a seven-day home quarantine on their arrivals. Enditem
