COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria exceed 20,000

SOFIA, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria has reached 20,055 after 58 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said on its website Monday morning.

Among the new cases, 17 were registered in the country's capital Sofia, bringing the city's tally to 5,266, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 796 as seven patients have died in the past 24 hours, while the number of recoveries from COVID-19 rose by 16 to 14,176, the ministry said.

It also said that currently 794 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 41 in intensive care.

The number of infected medical workers has reached 1,119, it added.

The figures also showed that 1,103 tests were carried out on Sunday, bringing the total number to 516,311, or nearly 73,760 per 1 million of the population. Enditem
