NILI, Afghanistan, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- The death toll has risen to 14 while three children were wounded when an improvised bomb struck a vehicle in Afghanistan's central Daykundi province on Tuesday, confirmed an Interior Ministry spokesman.
"The latest figures indicated that 14 civilians, including seven women, five children, and two men, were martyred and three children wounded on Tuesday morning in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Daykundi province," spokesman Tareq Arian said in a statement.
The incident occurred in Dasht-e-Sulaiman locality of Kujran district when a minibus, carrying the civilians to a shrine, touched off the IED, setting of the explosion roughly at 9:00 a.m. local time.
Earlier reports said 11 civilians were killed and four wounded.
Arian blamed enemies of peace, referring to the Taliban militant group, for the attack.
Militants in Afghanistan have been using home-made IEDs as roadside bombs and landmines to target security forces, but the lethal weapons also caused casualties among civilians. Enditem
