Afghanistan reports 62 new COVID-19 cases, tally at 40,088

KABUL, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan on Friday reported 62 new COVID-19 cases within the past 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 40,088, the country's Ministry of Public Health said.

"Within the past 24 hours, 425 suspected cases were tested, out of which 62 cases were tested positive in 10 provinces of Afghanistan's 34 provinces," the ministry said in a statement.

Four COVID-19 patients have died from the virus, taking the death toll to 1,485 since the outbreak of the pandemic in February.

The number of people recovered stands at 33,516 after 69 more patients recovered during the period.

The health authorities have conducted 116,393 tests since February, according to the ministry. Enditem
