Shanghai reports 5 new imported COVID-19 cases

SHANGHAI, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai reported five imported COVID-19 cases and no locally transmitted cases Friday, the municipal health commission said Saturday.

Four of the confirmed cases were Chinese nationals who departed from Germany and the Philippines where they were studying and working and arrived in Shanghai on Oct. 4 and Oct. 15, respectively.

There was also a Filipino sailor who arrived in Shanghai on Oct. 12 for ship maintenance.

All of them have been sent to designated medical institutions for treatment. A total of 43 people in close contact with the patients have been put under quarantine.

The municipal health commission said 738 imported cases had been reported in Shanghai by Friday. Among them, 662 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, and 76 continued to receive treatment.

By Friday, the municipality had recorded 342 locally transmitted confirmed cases, including seven deaths. Enditem
