BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's science news from the past week:
WETLAND MAPPING DATASET
Chinese researchers have generated a wetland dataset of 2015 with a spatial distribution of 30 meters resolution, and made it available for free.
Researchers from the Northeast Institute of Geography and Agroecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, combined meteorological, topographical, vegetation and water body distribution data, with the overall classification accuracy exceeding 92 percent.
ALLIANCE FOR NETWORK INFORMATION SECURITY
China has set up a new alliance to promote technological innovation on network information security.
The alliance, a non-profit organization, was coordinated by enterprises, universities and research institutions. It will create a platform for promoting scientific and technological innovation and the development of network information security and coordinating efforts on a larger scale.
AUV
Chinese researchers have developed autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) that can carry out plateau lake investigations, according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
The AUVs, jointly developed by the Shenyang Institute of Automation and the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research under CAS, conducted underwater investigations in Karakul Lake on the Pamir Plateau in September.
WILDLIFE HABITAT DATABASE
Chinese researchers have conducted an investigation on living conditions of wildlife in the Sanjiangyuan National Park and developed a database.
"Sanjiangyuan" means "the source of three rivers" and the park is home to many rare species. Covering an area of 123,100 square km, it was established to protect the headwaters of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang (Mekong) rivers.
Researchers from the Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences systematically investigated wildlife resources of the park and generated a list of terrestrial vertebrate species.
ENGLISH REMOTE SENSING JOURNAL
China's first English-language publication offering research in the field of remote sensing has been launched online.
The Journal of Remote Sensing is an open-access academic journal published in affiliation with the Aerospace Information Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and distributed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Enditem
