HAIKOU, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Authorities had opened spillways in 136 reservoirs in south China's Hainan Province to release floodwater by 3 p.m. on Monday, as rainstorms lashed the island.
Hainan has seen heavy rainfall since Oct. 15, with 92 townships having received more than 100 millimeters of precipitation each from the night of Oct. 15 to Sunday.
The downpours have affected the eastern, central, and southern parts of the province. Water levels have reached warning marks in some rivers, and flooding has been reported in some areas.
Continuous rainstorms could cause floods, and authorities said they would make appropriate plans according to the situation. Enditem
