TUNIS, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi on Monday ordered curfew in all 24 provinces of the country starting Tuesday, said a government statement.
Mechichi issued the order on the sidelines of a government meeting, according to the statement, without providing reasons or schedule of the curfew.
During the meeting, Mechichi discussed with his senior security officials the epidemiological situation of COVID-19 as well as the general security situation in the country.
Several provinces in Tunisia already imposed a 15-day curfew from Oct. 8.
Tunisia is seeing a rapid spread of COVID-19, as a total of 40,542 cases have been confirmed in the North African country, with 5,752 new ones reported in four days from Oct. 13 to 16. Enditem
