Tunisia announces 2,185 COVID-19 new cases, 42,727 in total

TUNIS, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Health Ministry on Monday night announced that 2,185 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed during Oct. 17 and Oct. 18, raising the tally of infections to 42,727 in the North African country.

The death toll from the virus rose by 61 to 687, the ministry said in a statement.

"The ministry recorded 978 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, including 173 in intensive care units and 103 others are mechanically ventilated," it added.

Amid the rapid spread of COVID-19, Tunisian Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi ordered a curfew in all 24 provinces of the country starting Tuesday. Enditem
