ZHUJI, China, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Sichuan Blue Whales beat the Fujian Sturgeons 89-79 in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Tuesday.
Li Yuanyu contributed a great deal in the victory for Sichuan, with 30 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Su Ruoyu also had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Shenzhen led 28-24 in the first quarter and kept its momentum through the second quarter. After pouring in several three-pointers, Sichuan ended the first half leading 52-37.
The game became tight as Wang Zhelin earned six consecutive points at the beginning of the second half, but the Fujian Sturgeons struggled to deal with the pressure and let Sichuan sail to the victory.
"Our players were fully devoted in today's game. Our defense against Fujian's perimeter players was good," Sichuan's head coach Zhou Jinli said.
"All of us are really confident and determined. The joining of new members has brought a fantastic 'chemical reaction' into our team," said Li Yuanyu.
