CAIRO, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian Foreign Ministry welcomed in a statement on Tuesday the understanding reached between the United States and Sudan over lifting the latter from the U.S. list of states sponsoring terrorism.

"Egypt looks forward that the move will end Sudan's long years of economic and political isolation and sufferings," it added.

It said that the step will pave the way for Sudan to swiftly return to exercise its deserved and active role in the African and Arab levels in a way that meets the ambitions and aspirations of the Sudanese people towards development and peace.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he would remove Sudan from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list after Sudan pays 335 million U.S. dollars to American victims. Enditem
