BANGKOK, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) in Thailand prohibits the sales and use of flying lanterns, flares, home-made rockets and firecrackers during Loy Krathong festival celebrated at the end of this month.
Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang on Wednesday confirmed the BMA ban on the sales and use of flying lanterns, flares, home-made rockets and firecrackers during the annual festival in the Thai capital where people will float banana-leaf vessels on the water on Oct. 31.
Those who might allegedly violate the prohibition by selling or playing with flying lanterns, flares and home-made rockets may be subject to a maximum of three years in prison or a maximum of 60,000 baht (about 1,920 U.S. dollars) in fine or both, according to the Bangkok governor.
In case of firecrackers, those who might allegedly violate the ban may be subject to a maximum of three months in prison or a maximum of 6,000 baht (about 192 U.S. dollars) in fine or both, he said. Enditem
