Training plane crashes in Turkey's Istanbul, pilot injured

ISTANBUL, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- A training plane crashed on Thursday in Turkey's biggest city Istanbul, leaving the pilot injured, the Istanbul Governor's office announced.

In a written statement, the governor's office said the plane, belonging to a private airline company, suffered an engine failure after taking off from Hezarfen Ahmet Celebi Airport.

It later fell during an emergency landing to an empty lot in the European side district of Buyukcekmece near the airport, it said.

The pilot, an undergraduate student, was rescued and rushed to a hospital by an air ambulance, the statement added. Enditem
