BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese police have registered more than 8,800 cases related to cross-border gambling and arrested over 60,000 suspects this year, the Ministry of Public Security said Thursday.

By the end of September, police across the country had busted more than 1,700 gambling platforms as well as over 1,400 illegal payment platforms and underground banks enabling cross-border gambling, the ministry added.

Public security organs, in cooperation with police forces of other countries, captured 590 Chinese suspects involved in cross-border gambling crimes from overseas, according to the ministry.

Police have urged the public to consciously resist gambling, encouraging people to report such crimes and share information on cross-border gambling. Enditem
