KAFULAFUTA, Zambia, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese firm, China National Complete Engineering Corporation (CCEC) working on the Kafulafuta water project has been commended for its skilful work on the project in Zambia's Copperbelt province.

Paul Mulenga, councillor for Mulungushi Ward 10, said CCEC has demonstrated how it means to use technology in infrastructure development.

CCEC is said to have done almost about 95 percent of works towards completion.

"I am happy with the works that the Chinese firm working on the Kafulafuta water project have done so far, residents in my area are going to have access to clean water soon," Mulenga said.

The civic leader said currently people in his ward were depending on water from shallow wells, a situation he said was not safe for the people as they risk contracting water-borne diseases.

He, however, said with Kafulafuta water project in completion life would be better for people.

"One other good thing about the project is that this Chinese company has also created jobs for the locals, especially the youths who have also learnt various Chinese technology skills," he said.

He urged people in the ward to continue working with the Chinese people for a better and prosperous Zambia.

"It is only through working with the right people like the Chinese that is when we are going to develop Zambia," he said.

Residents in Mulungushi Ward 10 have been complaining about erratic water supply in the area for a long time.

"This problem has been with us for too long, but we are happy that the Chinese company working on the Kafulafuta water project have done good works on the project," said Peter Mwale, one of the residents. Enditem
