DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The government of Switzerland on Friday granted Tanzania 15.75 million Swiss Francs (about 17.4 million U.S. dollars) for controlling malaria and supporting the country's efforts towards achieving the universal health coverage.
A statement by the Ministry of Finance and Planning said agreements of the grant were signed in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Doto James, and the Swiss ambassador to Tanzania, Didier Chassot.
The statement said the grant will help support Tanzania's National Malaria Control Program to reduce malaria deaths to zero.
The grant will also help expand malaria free zones in half of the country by 2030 through continuous sub-national mapping of infection risks, said the statement.
A report released by the state-run National Bureau of Statistics in 2018 showed that the prevalence of malaria in Tanzania had decreased by half from 14.4 percent in 2016 to 7.3 percent in 2018. Enditem
