MOGADISHU, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Somali lawmakers on Saturday approved all members of the country's new cabinet which was announced earlier this week by prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
Mohamed Mursal Sheikh, Parliament Speaker said all the 188 legislators present voted to approve all members of the new cabinet without any objection.
Roble who was present in Parliament during the vote thanked parliament for accepting his request on approving his cabinet, saying his government will work to improve security, end corruption and ensure that the forthcoming elections are peaceful.
Roble appointed his cabinet of 27 ministers, 17 state ministers, and 26 deputies on Oct. 19.
He later chaired the first cabinet meeting on Saturday where he told his ministers to foster unity in order to achieve the government's plan to serve the community and respect the rule of law.
The new cabinet is tasked with guiding the country for the 2020/2021 parliamentary and presidential elections and will have to manage the transition to a new government.
The new cabinet is also expected to work for three months before the term of the current parliament expires in February 2021. Enditem
